Scouts NSW - 1st Dulwich Hill/Marrickville Scout Group

Cubs

1st Dulwich Hill Cub Scouts (8-11 year olds)

The Cub Scout section focuses on exploring the outdoors, setting challenges and encountering new experiences! Cub Scouts can:

  • Create their own paths
  • Develop their sense of place
  • Explore the world around them
  • Encounter new experiences
  • Expand their perspectives
  • Determine their own adventures
  • Build upon friendships

You’ll get to go on camps with your Unit, and you might attend a Cuboree camp with hundreds of other Cub Scouts! As well as learning things like how to use a compass, you’ll go on bushwalks, bike trips, and have the chance to do things like sailing, canoeing, abseiling and sometimes even flying!

When and where do we meet

We meet every Tuesday during school terms, starting on the second week of term, between 6.30 pm and 8:00 pm.

The First Dulwich Hill Marrickville Scout Hall is located at  31 Lewisham Street, Dulwich Hill.

Registration and membership

Cub Scouts must be registered to attend meetings. This is for safety and insurance. Register and pay membership fees at https://scoutsnsw.au/scouthub-1dhm

What we expect of Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts agree to follow the scout promise and law and the unit code, which we develop collaboratively. This is basically respecting each other, making safe choices, and not being disruptive. Leaders will speak to parents if Cub Scouts act in a way that is dangerous, disruptive or disrespectful. Cub Scouts who continue to act in this way will be asked to take time out of meeting attendance.

What we expect of parents

You are expected to bring your child into the hall. Don’t drop and dash.

Arrive by 6.25pm for the 6.30pm opening parade and collect your Cub Scout by 8pm sharp.

For safety, Cub Scouts cannot leave meetings without a parent or carer.

Support your Cub Scout

You can support your child’s experience in Cub Scouts by staying for the opening parade, where you’ll find out what's on that evening, and joining us for the closing parade at 7.55pm. Cub Scouts are invested or receive awards and badges at closing parades. Leaders will tell parents if their child is receiving a badge or an award.

We welcome your support at meetings and camps as an Adult Helper, or you can share your skills and interests by contributing to our program. Adult Helpers need to complete online child safety training, pass a police safety check and have a working with children check.

You can also support us by helping our Group Committee. The committee meets once a month to manage and maintain the Scout Hall and coordinate fundraising for all Dulwich Hill Scout sections. You can contact our Chair, Sam Stephens on 0419 231 743, or our Treasurer, Con Tsitouras, on 0411 572 440.

Talk to a leader if you're interested in helping. It’s rewarding for you and your child, not hard and lots of fun 😊

Communication

Leaders will inform you of camps and major activities by email. We use WhatsApp chat for quick updates and to privately share photos of our activities. Ask a leader if you’d like to join.

Scouts Terrain

We use terrain.scouts.com.au to manage our program and track your Cub Scout’s achievements. In Terrain you can subscribe to our program calendar and see your Cub Scout’s progress through their Outdoor Adventure Skills and Special Interest Areas. You can also submit program or activity ideas to the leaders.

We tell you more about Terrain and supply Cub Scouts’ login details after they register.
